Mathematical/Calculus related job in Horizontal Directional Drilling/Pipeline installation industry

I own a company in the Horizontal Directional Drilling(HDD) industry, in which we set up a drill and create a hole under rivers, highways, towns, sensitive wildlife areas or whatever to avoid disturbing the surface habitat. To do this job, there needs to be someone who is able to know where that drill bit is underground, and to direct it in such a way that it comes out on the other side of the river/highway etc at the pre-determined location. This job is commonly called a "Steerhand" or "Guidance Technician". That is where I come in. So my job is to use trigonometry, circle geometry such as radius calculation, build rates, arc length, segment lengths, etc to determine where we need to go next. As far as where we are currently in the ground, thats where the calculus and vectors applies to triangulate its position in the earth.
