We're looking for the poster art for a microbudget scifi comedy called A Brand New You. It's very indie and a bit on the weird side, though with some serious stuff about death and loss and getting over the pain of the past. (the credit block is at the bottom of this, after a lengthy plot synopsis for anyone who wants to get a better feel of the details of the story)
Briefly, the logline is as follows: After a failed suicide attempt, a young widower convinces his landlord and his roommate to help him clone his recently departed wife.
We are open to different design possibilities and want you to feel free to use your imagination. But we're uploaded some shots to help with the design - some "before/after" type shots of the three lead characters. There's also some production stills to choose from.
If you decide to go the before/after route, the tagline(s) we had in mind for each of the paired shots was as follows: "A Brand New You"... "with the miracle of science" (Murray in his underwear - mean, then happy), "by letting go of the past" (Santiago), "through the magic of love" (Laura).
If you choose to use the production stills - or none of the photos at all - the tagline we had in mind was: "Mourn First, Clone Later".
Some of the different styles of poster that we like are linked to below.

DETAILED PLOT SYNOPSIS
A Brand New You
Synopsis
Santiago’s life is empty. And so is his house. As the story opens he stares at the last piece of décor in the home that he and his wife, Viviana, once shared: a family photo that hangs on the wall of the livingroom. Viviana is now dead, after her secret battle with cancer, and the house is now sold to a new family.
With the few remaining belongings, Santiago moves into a rooming house that was advertised as “luxury” and into a room sold to him as a “master bedroom”. Only neither is true. The house is a disaster area and the room is a tiny 6’x9’, filthy monk’s cell up in the attic, which he shares with Laura, a “recovering housewife” with two jobs and a secret. His landlord, Murray, is an unhygienic, reprehensible bear of a man. A down-and-outer with a potty mouth and a too-great love of alcohol.
After a major clean-up, Santiago works through his to-do list – he’s a man who doesn’t like a mess of any kind. In fact, he’s so prepared that he even has made videos of Viviana that he watches on his iPad, like a man who visits with the ghosts of the dead. The tasks he has set himself include revising his last will & testament and then pre-booking his own funeral plot right next to Viviana’s.
And, once he’s finished with the items on his list, he prepares to finish off the last item: himself. But Santiago’s plans to scratch himself off the great to-do list of life are foiled by the intrusion of Laura.
With his suicide attempt foiled, Santiago must come up with another way to relieve the terrible pain of his loss. When it turns out that Murray – besides being odious – is a brilliant biologist, an idea is born. They will clone Viviana and Laura will be its surrogate mother. The only trouble – besides the fact that no one has ever cloned a human being – is that Murray and Laura both refuse to be a part of Santiago’s plan, even when he offers Laura $20,000 for her surrogacy.
But Laura has a soft spot for Santiago and understands the pain of a loss so powerful that moving on is impossible. She also needs the money. So Laura agrees to submit to the treatment and tells Santiago a secret about Murray that helps to convince him to help as well: his real name isn’t Murray at all, it’s Victor Soares and his disgrace has been so profound that he’s in hiding from the world. Sometimes a little blackmail goes a long way.
With his roommates on board, Santiago sources the materials to build a lab for Murray to do his Frankensteinian labours. Unfortunately, while they do manage to assemble a make-shift lab, Santiago suffers a financial meltdown. His in-laws have had his assets frozen because Viviana had no will and had designated no executor of her estate. Laura, meanwhile, is under pressure from her friend and co-worker, Natalie, to not go through with a more-than-questionable procedure.
With the lab complete, the roommates go out for a celebration. While out, they come across Laura’s ex-mother in law and her silent husband. It is revealed that Laura actually has a young son over whom she lost custody after suffering a mental breakdown two years earlier. He now lives with his father in Saudi Arabia, which is why she has been working two jobs and trying to save money – to go and visit the boy.
Sometime later, as Murray prepares the lab for Laura to have an egg extracted, Santiago goes to retrieve her. Laura is preparing herself with some calming yoga and she convinces Santiago to join in. But, soon, the “yoga class” turns to something more and Santiago and Laura fall into bed together, their shared pain becoming the basis for their shared passion.
Afterwards, the agonizing egg extraction procedure is a success. Then Murray must remove Laura’s genetic material and, in its place, insert genetic material from a strand of Viviana’s hair. This proves to be a challenge, as Murray has the shakes because he has quit drinking so that he can focus on the cloning. Santiago – an industrial designer – builds a gearbox with a wheel for Murray, so that he can perform the fine movements necessary to complete the cloning. Finally, success! The egg is fertilized, allowed to grow and divide and then re-inserted into Laura’s womb.
For days nothing appears to be happening and Santiago is getting nervous. But, as if on cue, Laura arrives and throws up on Murray before rushing off to hide in the bathroom. She never believed that this crazy procedure would actually work. Laura texts Natalie who rushes to the scene with an RU-486 abortion pill and insists that Laura must take it – what if she’s pregnant with a monster? What if it’s an ectopic pregnancy? What if it’s a child from Santiago’s and Laura’s encounter? Natalie tells Laura that there are other ways to get to Saudi Arabia and this is just one more excuse to put off facing her son. Laura refuses to take the pill but Natalie tells her to keep it anyway.
But when it comes to bad news, it never rains but it pours. Santiago is called in for another meeting with his lawyer, who informs him that Viviana’s parents have furnished proof that Viviana was intending to divorce Santiago at the time of her death and, on the basis of this, will seize the entirety of Viviana’s estate, leaving Santiago with nothing, including no money to pay Laura the $20,000 he owes her. But this wouldn’t matter anyway, as Laura has suffered a miscarriage or, rather, she did take the pill Natalie gave her and has aborted the fetus. Santiago feels doubly betrayed and he and Murray throw Laura out of the house. Laura leaves to go to Saudi Arabia.
With his one reason to leave gone and feeling broken-hearted by everyone around him, Santiago prepares to kill himself. However, he agrees to sell the lab equipment to raise some money for Murray, once again deep in the bottle, before he does the deed.
Santiago places an ad on craigslist and a Nerdy Dude shows up to purchase the “portable lab”, except that it isn’t very portable. Murray appears and asks the kid what he needs in his “portable lab” and then agrees, against the protestations of Santiago, to have the two of them build it for him.
Together, Murray and Santiago build a “lab in a suitcase” for the Nerd. The Nerd returns and is so blown away that he calls his friends to come by and buy one for themselves. Suddenly Santiago and Murray have a successful business. Santiago has delivered on his promise to help Murray out. He now cleans out his room and leaves the house. He tells Murray he is going to the train bridge nearby. Shortly afterwards, Laura shows up, returned from Saudi Arabia, looking for Santiago. Murray tells her that he left and she rushes to catch him.
At the railway bridge, Santiago watches one final video of Viviana the day that they got the photo taken that hung on their wall at the beginning of the story. He says his goodbye to her then throws the iPad under a passing train just as Laura arrives. It is time to move on. Laura tells Santiago that her son and ex-husband are returning to Canada so that the boy can be with his mother again. And Santiago tells Laura about the business that he and Murray have established. They are moving on with their lives and maybe can have a friendship on a new basis. Santiago and Laura apologize to each other – they were so lost in their own misery and loss that they didn’t think about the needs of the other person. Santiago invites her to watch the sunset with him from the rail bridge and they lock arms as they lean on the railing and look to the west.
THE END.

Hey there - First we wanted to thank everyone for their fabulous work. It was a difficult decision and even the poll was very close between several of the designs. But, in the end, we had to make a decision and choose only one.
