Greetings, Designers!
Here's a project that we hope is refreshing, challenging and fun - and it involves hookahs.
Aladin Hookahs & More, an internationally operating manufacturer and wholesaler of hookahs is in the process of launching a new line of hookah pipes, the so-called "Origins“ -
Essentially, Aladin is looking for a poster that represents the Origins brand identity as outlined below.
The poster should display a motif, embodying the brand's personality, suitable to print it on a poster. The main usage of this motif/picture will be to print on a poster, i.e., we are looking for a poster illustration.
First of all, this illustration will be displayed in specialized shops (retail) and target a young and hip audience. Secondly, the motif will be one of the brand's cornerstones and thus used in representing the brand at other touch points, such as, brochures or the company's website.
The motif is supposed to embody the Origins, that is, a picture that represents the Origins' style and identity (as it will be detailed at the bottom). To make this clearer, for example, Red Bull uses photos of extreme sports and puts its logo on it, Marlboro uses photos of cowboys and wild west themes and puts its logo on it, Coca Cola shows people enjoying themselves and having a good time and puts its logo on it, et cetera. In this line, we are also looking for a motif that captures what the brand is all about. An illustration that picks up the brand personality. A motif where we can put our logo on.
What exactly the designer chooses - motif-wise - will not be narrowed down; it only matters that whatever is presented captures the brand personality. Feedback will presented upon every design submission.
The motif that the designers choose to express the Origins with must be branded, that is, the Origins logo must be put on it in such a way that it can be seen and will be associated with the motif displayed. Note, the logo is not supposed to be in the center of attention.
In the first place, the poster is supposed to attract the attention of someone who sees the poster in a store. In this light, the poster can be cocky, funny, witty, ironic, etc. and does not have to be super serious.
In the following we will give you an explanation of the Origins (i.e., the brand). This is what you are supposed to translate into a motif:

Here's what the Origins are like and how they want to be seen
(brand personality to be illustrated on the poster):
Essentially, Origins are edgy hookah pipes for edgy persons.
They like to attract attention due to their intense shapes and colors. It's really hard to not look at them. Some say they are provocative. Others say they are simply eye-catching.
Unsurprisingly, punchy people tend to like Origins since it gives them a way of personifying their individual edginess.
Origins hate boredom, just like their owners do. They love if something is going on and are probably as freaky as their owners. Accordingly, their philosophy of life is to "be original", which they also use as their strap line.
Origins are keen and colorful. With their help Aladin campaigns against all the boring pipes out there and launches a new energetic line of hookahs that is everything but dull.
Origins are about having an edgy, original personality, about being funky and about having a good time.
Origins are made for the young and for the young at heart. For urban people. For alternative people. For independent people. For the cool ones. For the social ones. For the open minded ones.

Dear designers,
since it has been asked for I want to clarify the issue of using real/actual photos vs. not using real/actual photos:
Our call for poster illustration simply refers to presenting the Origins' brand personality in a visual way. This can be done with the help of photos embodying a brand personality (e.g., http://goo.gl/EJh7wL, http://goo.gl/KqLI9R) or with the help of non-photo designs embodying the brand's style (e.g., http://goo.gl/JhJ1Fk, http://goo.gl/tbOIhy).
We are open-minded towards both.
Feel free to ask further questions.
All the best.
