Brief de Web Design
TruckingTruth is looking for an uncoded web page template (PSD, JPEG are fine) designed around our new header image and logo. I've attached the new header image and logo to the brief.
Who We Are:
We are experienced truck drivers dedicated to helping people understand the American trucking industry, decide if truck driving is the right career choice, and help them get their driving career off to a great start.
We need to convey trust, authority, experience, and professionalism. People are coming to us for help with major life changing decisions. They want to know where to go to school, which company to work for, and how to prepare for the licensing exams. So they're counting on us to guide them into their new career. Being trustworthy is extremely important to us.
Our target audience is 85% male and the average age is about 45 years old. They are not technologically savvy. They do not come from a corporate environment. They are likely to wear work boots, jeans, and T-shirts 80% of the time. They're not afraid to have a beer or two, and they'll say a bad word from time to time. Very few are college graduates. They tend to be very strong personalities who don't really like authority, but in this case they need someone they can trust - someone who has been there - to help them make the right career choices.
The tough part is that we must look right to our low-tech, middle-aged, male-dominated target audience and yet we regularly work with large corporations, offering them job posts, advertising, and recruiting. So we have to appeal to the low-tech, older, male audience and yet still have a look and feel that corporations would be proud to identify themselves with.
One website should also convey a feeling of optimism, freedom, inspiration, and excitement. People are getting ready to start a whole new career travelling thousands of miles every week in a tractor trailer. That's really cool! It's a life-changing, grand adventure. We want to inspire people at the same time we're mentoring them.
I hate to limit your creativity by specifying too many details like colors, shapes, styles, etc. So I'll leave as much freedom to you as possible. Just keep in mind the male dominated target audience and the trustworthiness we're trying to convey.
Deliverables:
Uncoded web page template - A PSD or even a JPEG is fine. We have a responsive website but you will NOT have to do anything for mobile. You will only have to design the full size template for the desktop.
Here is a link to our old page template:
http://www.truckingtruth.com/includes/templates3/template.php
In the attached files with this brief you will find our new header image and logo. You will be building a new page template around that header image. The content that is on the old page template, which includes the main menus, search box, drop down menu, and everything in the footer at the bottom will remain the same but it can all be restyled. In other words, do not add or remove any content from the old template but go ahead and rearrange and restyle everything.
As far as what we're looking for:
1) We obviously want a grunge look but NOT too extreme. Remember, this is primarily a site for doing career research and preparation. It has to appeal to our older male audience but must also be professional and respectable enough to appeal to large corporations.
2) The main content area will be a maximum of 1200px wide and the background color for the main content area must be #F5F5F5. If you would like to use a background image for outside of the content area please make sure it scales to 2600px wide.
3) You are free to use any sort of images, textures, gradients - whatever you like. Make it flat, make it 3d, or make it both - it's up to you. I don't want to limit your creativity.
So that's it! One page template using the new header image which I've attached to this brief.
