Brief de Web Design

Big ( http://big.vc/ ) is an upside-down startup incubator. Instead of asking people to apply with their ideas, we fuel innovation by providing ideas from the top-down. We then provide all the technological and legal tools needed to implement these ideas while actively looking outwards to scout new talent and investors.

Big is a big idea that is looking to change the world. We create value, and want to share that value with the world. We need a site that conveys this important message.

We at Big believe there is a fundamental flaw in the ideology that drives companies today. Even those that are consider the most progressive and socially conscious miss the bigger picture. Take for example Google, which famously has "Don't be evil" as its informal corporate motto. A nice sentiment but that’s all it is. Don't be evil is moral apathy, we must strive to actively do good. All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

The purpose of every business should be to provide a valuable service to humanity. That alone should be the sole purpose. Attaining profits is only a means to a greater end, a way to prolong a business's ability to provide this service. What does this mean?

We must emphasize People over Profits. If a business does not continue to provide for the greater good, regardless of whether or not the business is profitable, the business is a failure. There are very dirty words that describe the actions of a business that disregard people for profits like usury and profiteering.

We must emphasize Sustainability over Growth. A business's success should not be determined by how big it is or how fast it is growing, but instead by its ability to optimally provide its services. The assumption a business should always be growing is wrong. Growth should occur in a way that allows a company to extend its abilities to serve its customers not at the cost of this service.

A business must emphasize Transparency. Providing a transparent view of business activities enforces company honesty to its shareholders, employees and customers. The difficulty of managing the operational information of a business as it scales is exponential. Attempting to solve this problem by controlling information is destructive and often leads to miscommunication or discontent. Everything must be open by default.

A business should be an Open Entity that anyone can share in. There should always be a pool of equity available for anyone to wants to own a piece of the business. Ownership creates loyalty. What better way to endorse a business other then having a vested interest in it?

When people work together towards the greater good and do so in an open and honest environment, we harness the most powerful force we have, the collective will.
