Cover must be formatted for 6x9 size in pdf file. A tree branch running horizontally across the cover with a few green leaves and one shiny apple hanging from it. Background is bright light behind the apple. Apple has dagger entering near the top with the tip protruding on opposite side. Blood is running from the tip to form the book title below the apple: THE FIRST CRIME SCENE. Header at top reads LESSONS OF LIFE LEARNED AT CRIME SCENES OF DEATH. At bottom DET. FRANK TOMLINSON, Ret
LAPD ROBBERY HOMICIDE DIVISION.
(Back cover contains following text:)
ROBBERY HOMICIDE DIVISION 1974: The commanding officer of the division, and the C/O of the Homicide Special Section, decide to break from the LAPD tradition of arbitrarily assigning partners. They take the unusual risk of allowing two detectives of equal supervisory rank (D-3) to decide if they want to work with one another. If the risk fails, the C/O’s would face department criticism for breaking with tradition and likely lose their assignments.
The First Crime Scene is the true story of how Duke and Sammy teamed up to begin catching killers and solving murders in an unprecedented way - in a time without cell phones, computers, the internet or DNA - the 1970‘s. By all accounts, these were the glory years for LAPD.
(break here for the following endorsement)
Frank’s stories are based on real cases, the tough murder investigations. He solved the cases the way the public and his supervisors expected them to be solved: Hard work, doggedness, seeing details by bits and pieces and putting them together to complete the puzzle, outstanding interview and interrogation techniques, toughness, and the ability to be cold, hard, or compassionate when necessary. He and his partner solved more cases than all other teams combined. They were given the freedom to pursue their investigations as they saw fit because they had the confidence of their bosses, and they produced results.
