Brief de Design Vectoriel
Crimestoppers New Zealand is a registered charity whose goals are to prevent crime and contribute information to authorities to reduce the resolution time (and related costs) for crimes committed.
The costs and traumatic outcomes of a range of Road and Traffic crimes are increasing with little sign of any positive change.
While death on the roads is usually used as a key indicator of road safety, the costs of road accidents and the increasing number of children maimed or seriously injured is at serious levels and rising.
Crimestoppers’ key competitive attribute is that people who contact us (by free phone or through the website) have their anonymity guaranteed.
This means that people who will not contact Police (or other government agencies), can ‘do the right thing’ by providing useful information and be confident that they cannot be identified or contacted. This factor is really important for family members, friends, work colleagues, people who have criminal ‘form’ or anyone who fears the possibility of retribution or Police/Court cross examination.
From experience over the past 4 years, we have concluded that many people do not regard improper driving behaviour as criminal and, as a consequence, don’t think Crimestoppers is a relevant ‘brand’ for providing information about improper road and traffic behaviour.
The Crimestoppers trustees are, therefore, considering creating a separate road and traffic related brand which will have the same anonymity attributes as Crimestoppers and will appeal to people to provide information about improper road and traffic behaviour. The behaviours we want to reduce (and eventually eliminate) include driving a vehicle while disqualified, driving unregistered or unlicensed vehicles, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, exceeding speed limits around schools or near school transport.
We will give serious consideration to branding recommendations that focus on any one (or multiples) of these behaviours.

It is clear that some designers have focused on reworking the Crimestoppers graphic without recognising that the focus for audience stimulation is road and traffic wrongdoing.
While none of you has suggested "Crashstoppers' as a brand, I hope that, thinking about it you might be encouraged to extend your design ideas to incorporate a brand of this form with associated graphics.
While the Crimestoppers brand is successful in stimulating public responses to provide information about 'traditional crime' (property and vehicle theft, burglary, abuse of women, drugs etc), our anecdotal evidence is that improper/illegal road and traffic wrongdoing is not seen by the public as 'criminal'. So, perhaps, we need a new brand for this 'market'.
