For your project, you forgot to mention exactly sizes, which are needed for professional poster, flyers etc.. It would be even better if you give information how many bleed your printer needs, so that poster is in correct sizes. Bleed is needed for print machine, so machine can cut poster correctly. I can do default bleed, but i do not recommend this method, after all, if you buy poster, which does not have correct bleeds, you will have issues at print. There are few details concerning for correct printing, but this is designers job. If he knows what he is doing, you do not need to worry about.
what you see on your screen is not what you will get when you print design....

Just opened one of your drafts.

For example, this is not for printing...It is too small.
Right, many of the one sheet drafts were just mockups for easy web distribution. One of the PDF versions should be the right size, however, and also contains the title block already filled in.
Standard movie poster sizes are 27" x 40" in the US, but the bleed issue is a good point we neglected to address in the brief. We don't have a printer officially lined up yet, so I don't have exact bleed info yet. I'll research that next week (people are closed here in the US for a holiday weekend) and update the brief accordingly. For now, please assume a default bleed amount and be prepared to scale the design slightly one way or the other depending on what we hear back from the printer.
If i scale design to bigger size you lose quality of picture. Which will not be visible on preview, cause preview is so small on designcrowd. But if you look for quality every scaling to bigger sizes looses quality of the picture.
I am just honest to you....
PS: do not know how much quality you lose if we upscale design for few mm, cause i do not work like that. But we can do that if you wont.
just remember: your best bet for quality is sharpen the image, better will look when printed. To bad, we cant upload previews in 300dpi 1:1
Yes, i am in agreement with the previous post. Printed pieces require images that are much higher in resolution than video clips or stills. All artwork viewed on or designed for electronic devices (websites, smart phones, tablets and television) is deliberately very low in resolution, but the graininess is not noticeable in this format.
When printed, though, if we are to use these images, you will see very grainy and fuzzy photos which will not be clear and will look very unprofessional. Do you have a source to help you make high resolution translations from these low-res files?
Thank you!
Understood.
The film was shot on a RED Epic, however, so most of the stills are 4K or 5K Ultra HD – not regular HD 1920x1080. That's why we thought perhaps creating a composite featuring the boy, the girl, and the typewriter might yield the best results (because none of the images would need to be scaled large enough to fill the poster by themselves).
Most stills from the film should be available at 5120 × 2700 pixels or at least 4096 × 1708. We understand that none of these images will allow for a single image to fill the full poster size. Apologies that that was left unclear in the brief. (First time I've posted to DesignCrowd, so I'm learning as we go!)
We are open to suggestions, but unfortunately we do not have a source to help make the high resolution translations you mentioned. The design solution would need to make the most of the images provided.
I will download all of your files, run a few tests and let you know what are my options for making best quality with material which you provided.
But you must know, preview of designs will not show you what you get. You are looking at 72 ppi, i am working in 300 dpi.
In your case problem is: Everyone can make design with your material looking great at 72ppi, but question is what is with 300dpi...
Non the less i am very glad we can talk with you about issues an non apologies needed.
Best reward for designer is feedback. Does not matter if he win or lose, designer is happy if he see, that somebody appreciate his time and work.
Understood on this end, as well! No apologies necessary! Thanks for your prompt reply!
Cool. BTW, why is one limited to viewing the designs at 72 ppi? I can set up a Dropbox folder, if necessary, for posting 300 dpi samples if folks are worried about our not being able to see artifacts at 72 that are apparent at 300.
The poster is the most challenging, I know. But luckily there should be plenty of resolution in the stills for the postcards, flier, & business card designs – which could just be scaled down derivatives of the poster in many respects.
