Brief de Design de Logo

We have a logo that we've been using for 10 years. I like it - but it's become stale, and it has elements that were very common in logos 10 years ago - features that a lot of design experts will say are overused. I'm looking for something that hopefully (but not required) has some continuity with the old logo but presents a fresh, hip, modern feel without looking like everyone else's logo.

I prefer to stay with burgundy and gray but don't have to - any ideas that are submitted in different colors do not need to be resubmitted - I get the idea of what it can look like.

If our company were an animal, we would be a duck because of a duck's versatility in various weather. If we were a car, we would be Range Rover for luxury off-road and city driving. If our company were a tool, we would be a leatherman.

I don't know what else to say to describe us - we are a small firm that is very versatile. We are not a discount wholesaler. We are a premium service provider.

The logo I'm looking for cannot have a lot of fine detail that gets lost when it is printed small - it needs to look good when it is small and it needs to look good when it is reduced to just 2-color.
