I'd like to just point out that any designer worth their salt will provide you with vector graphics meaning resolution is neither here nor there. Vector graphics, such as an .ai or .eps document are the only way your logo should be provided. A 300dpi image can be provided alongside your vector graphics but if you're not provided with .ai .eps and also preferably print ready .pdf of your logo then the designer in question isn't giving you what you're paying for.

I'm not saying this to gain favour as I haven't even entered this contest yet.

I'm saying this because you ask for the 300dpi image which tells me you may not be 100% about what you should be getting. I wouldn't want you to be stuck.
