Brief de Design de Logo
We need a logo design for a school in Fiji. The name of the school is Lelean Memorial School.
Lelean Memorial School is one of the largest co-ed schools in Fiji. It was established in 1943 and is run by the Methodist Church of Fiji. It is co-located at the Davuilevu Methodist Compound with the Davuilevu Theological College and the Young People's Department, which runs training for Methodist catechists.
Overlooking Fiji's largest river, the Rewa, the school gate faces the Rewa Bridge. Directly across the river is the village of Nausori and the old sugar town of the same name. The school roll for 2014 is 1600.
History
Davuilevu is the missionary base from which the first Christian martyr in Fiji, the Rev Thomas Baker launched his missionary journeys into the as yet cannibal lands of the hill tribes of Viti Levu. Rev Baker was killed and cannibalised in 1867.
Davuilevu, the name of the site upon which Lelean and other Methodist institutions are built, literally means the Large Conch Shell; the largest Sea Shell found in Fiji. The use of the adjective 'large' in this context implies huge or giant although the literal definition of the Fijian 'levu' is directly translated, simply, as big. The conch shell is customarily used as a horn by native Fijians (as well as other South Pacific peoples) to herald important events or to call people together. The Methodist Church of Fiji uses the symbology of this traditional tool of gathering people for the conveyance of the Good News thus becoming the most important Davui or conch of all; the Conveyor of the GOOD NEWS of JESUS CHRIST. A clarion call to save the lost The Giant Conch Shell (Charonia tritonis) is the logo tratitionally used by Lelean Memorial School along that same vein of thought.
The school founder, William Ewart Donnelly was a New Zealander, who became a teacher and General Secretary of the Students’ Christian Movement in the early 1930s and early 40s. He remained principal of Lelean from 1943 to 1945 when he returned to New Zealand.
The school motto is “Seek wisdom and spiritual understanding”.
The traditional colours of Lelean Memorial School is Navy Blue, Royal Blue, Sky Blue and White.
The design needs to feature the Davui or Conch Shell, (Charonia Tritonis) and Fijian Methodism and Christianity. Christian symbolism needs to be central to the theme. If possible, maybe elements of the Baker Hall could be used too. Would like to have the logo simple and bright with the above elements incorporated into it. The logo should be easily embroidered or made into lapel pins of varying sizes.
See attachment.
