Brief de Design Graphique

We need a logo for the planned merino route in the Eastern Cape in South Africa.

The Merino sheep must be prominent in the design as well as the South African flag. The route will be rural with various old farm houses and wind mills. The main focus will be to 'get away from it all' experience with a focus on tranquillity and true hospitality from the people in the area.

I've uploaded a few photos of old farm houses, merino sheep, the South African Flag and typical wind mills on the route.

Please download the PDF(25 mb) on

You will find some great pics on the Merino sheep, old farm houses and wind mills.

A full description of the assignment is listed below.

A number of Eastern Cape local business men, farmers and community members have also seen the episode of Henry Cole riding through the Kalahari towards Cape Town. Many years ago they had a splendid idea to revive Eastern Cape as a travel / tourism destination. The identified the route and branded it as the Merino route, naming it after the economic core of the region, the Merino wool sheep. Tragically, that is where the splendid idea ended, with a few “Merino route” road signs next to the route. The interest group decides to contact an MBA Marketing group to help them to firstly develop a proper branding for the Merino route and then to develop a marketing plan for the route. They have no idea what budget should be allocated, nor do they have any marketing knowledge. They have, however, looked at similar successful cases of branding and marketing routes such as Route 66 (USA) Chicago to Los Angeles, The Great Ocean drive between Sydney and Melbourne (Australia) and even Highway 1 (New York to Key West (USA), and reckon that the Eastern Cape has much to offer.
Their view is to expand the Merino route into a circular drive. It will start at Port Elizabeth via Patterson, Cookhouse, Cradock, Hofmeyer, Steynsburg, Venterstad towards the town of Philipolis at the origin of the Gariep dam. Travelers wanting to continue towards the Free State or northern destinations would then leave the Merino route here, traveling to Springfontein where they join the N1 north towards Bloemfontein.
Others wanting to continue on the circular Merino drive would then from Philipolis drive towards the Gariep dam’s wall (Oviston), Colesburg, Middelburg, Graaf Reinette, Jansenville, Uitenhage and back to Port Elizabeth. Naturally, the tourists also have the option to drive the reverse course, starting off towards Jansenville if they want to. Limited information currently exists locally on the (non-operational) Merino route (despite the fact that the area has so much to offer in leisure, adventure, recreation, accommodation and scenery)
