*** NOTE !! ***
In addition to the design brief below (which remains open and "valid"), our Chairman has now asked that we also seek some designs which are a "general refresh" of the existing logo to "tidy it up" and make it a little more crisp and modern. To do this we would like:
- Still using the "Mario's Mules" concept (as outlined at http://www.cqc.co.uk/ability.html) for the logo, but getting it crisp & fresher:
- Proposing a crisp, clean, more modern font for the "CQC"
- A possible refresh of the colours or, indeed, a change of colour palette (though please remember our target market)
- The logo must still work well as a black on white or black on olive (it will be used thisway in labelling in our products)
Please have a go at this additional option in the brief, as well as the more "open" brief below.
Thanks!

A long established small British defence company (now under new ownership) is looking to overhaul its logo and branding as it prepares for growth. The company - CQC Limited - makes specialist body armour, load carriage, sleeping and shelter systems mainly for military customers but also for law enforcement and other specialist services. We will consider retaining some of the "heritage" of the old logo (see http://www.cqc.co.uk/ability.html for the history of the logo) and perhaps to somehow incorporate just a tiny "hint" of a Union Jack flag in a subtle or very abstracted way, but are also happy to consider completely new concepts which stray from this part of the brief.
The logo needs to be clean, crisp bold and clear; look good both as colour and black&white (or black on olive green); not overly "fussy"; be acceptable to military types, but not overtly militaristic or aggressive
Themes to consider when creating the logo are: protection; carrying loads; fabric/textiles; british heritage; solidity & security; clean modern & fresh.
Colours: can either continue with the broad "red white and blue" or pick up on more "military" colour schemes but should not become so muted as not to stand out.
While the above is a fairly specific brief, we will also consider completely new logo ideas with the proviso that our customer base can be conservative and/or military in nature.
While this initial task is for a logo only, this is the first step in a more major overhaul of our brand & other materials (web, printed materials, business cards and letterheads, powerpoint slides etc) so could lead to significant future business

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: Many thanks for your submissions so far. Most of the team were at the Soldier Tech trade show last week, so we are a little behind in providing feedback to promising designs, and we are also about to have 1 week factory shutdown. With this and the bank holiday in mind, we have decided on a brief extension to allow us to get up to date and provide a little further time for designers to submit or refine existing designs.
We intend to then go through a downselect a work with a few designers of promising concepts to get to a final solution.
Many thanks for some great submissions so far - we are getting to the point of committing to payment as quality is generally high and we feel confident we can get a suitable design

Many thanks for some great designs so far - we are doing our best to get through them and provide feedback. A couple of points for you all to note:

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: Many thanks for all your great work so far. I have been asked by the panel to extend this deadline for a couple of reasons:
Firstly, we have asked (or are in the process of asking) a couple of designers to make some "tweaks" to the concept to a point where we think they are sufficiently developed to get to a final shortlist.
Secondly, I have been asked by our Chairman to also canvass some designs which are a "general refresh" of the existing logo and the "Mario's Mules" concept by tidying the existing logo and proposing a newer, more modern font for the current slightly dated looking one. I'll update the brief shortly to this effect, but do feel free to provide some responses to this challenge.
We've been impressed by many of the designs submitted so far and feel confident now that we'll have something we can select. Since we have now offered some extra time, there is still an opportunity to provide further concepts - if they are good enough, we will still consider them.
Thanks for all your efforts so far!
