# LEVEL — Visual Identity & Letterhead Design Brief
## Organization
Organization Name: LEVEL
Organization Type: A School Transformation Organization
Mission:
LEVEL is an educational systems organization that rebuilds conditions so that student success becomes possible — regardless of circumstance.
LEVEL works to create coherent, sustained systems of academic excellence, belonging, opportunity, and support across schools and their surrounding communities. The organization is initially focused on strengthening the educational pipeline from elementary school through Jere Baxter Middle School and Maplewood High School in Nashville.
## Purpose of the Identity
Create a sophisticated, highly credible visual identity for LEVEL that can represent the organization with:
* School and district leadership
* Foundations and philanthropic organizations
* Corporate and community partners
* Universities and educational institutions
* Government and civic leaders
* Families and community stakeholders
* Prospective board members and donors
LEVEL should **not look like a small after-school program, tutoring organization, or traditional children's nonprofit.** The identity should communicate that LEVEL is an organization concerned with **systems, transformation, strategy, educational excellence, and long-term institutional change.**
## Desired Brand Personality
The visual identity should feel:
**Intelligent · Credible · Forward-looking · Purposeful · Sophisticated · Optimistic · Enduring**
There should be warmth and humanity, but the overall presentation should have the authority and sophistication of an organization capable of working alongside major educational institutions, foundations, corporations, and public agencies.
## Creative Direction
The word **LEVEL** should be the centerpiece of the identity.
Because LEVEL is a palindrome and has natural visual balance, designers are encouraged to explore a strong **typographic/wordmark solution** rather than relying upon a separate illustrative logo.
Subtle graphic ideas may reference:
* Alignment and coherence
* Progression and upward movement
* A connected educational pathway
* Transformation
* Equal access to opportunity
* Building strong foundations
* Multiple schools or systems working toward a common outcome
These ideas should be interpreted abstractly and intelligently rather than literally.
### Avoid
No graduation caps, apples, pencils, books, schoolhouses, light bulbs, ABCs, cartoon children, hands-in-a-circle imagery, or other conventional education/nonprofit symbols.
Avoid anything overly youthful, playful, corporate-generic, trendy, or technology-startup oriented.
The identity should remain relevant **10–15 years from now.**
## Color & Typography
The designer may propose the palette. Colors should convey **authority, optimism, intelligence, and possibility** while remaining appropriate for an education-focused civic organization.
Avoid primary-school color palettes and overly bright combinations.
Typography should be clean, highly legible, contemporary, and sophisticated. Fonts should also be practical for routine organizational use in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, presentations, reports, and digital communications.
## Letterhead
The letterhead should be understated and institutional rather than heavily designed.
It should reproduce well both digitally and when printed on standard **8½ × 11-inch white paper** and provide ample room for correspondence.
The LEVEL identity should be prominent enough to establish the organization but should never compete with the content of the letter.
## Required Deliverables
* Primary LEVEL logo/wordmark
* Horizontal and stacked configurations, if appropriate
* Full-color version
* Black version
* White/reversed version
* SVG, EPS and/or AI vector source files
* High-resolution PNG files with transparent backgrounds

* Primary and secondary typography recommendations
* Microsoft Word letterhead template
* Google Docs-compatible letterhead
* Print-ready PDF letterhead

## Overall Creative Standard
The ultimate test is simple:
**LEVEL should look credible sitting on the same page with a major university, national foundation, corporate partner, or public education institution.**
The identity should communicate that LEVEL is not simply delivering another educational program. It is working to **change the conditions and systems that determine whether students succeed.**
