Brief de Design de Logo

Project: Create a restrained, institutional logo system for CHARTER & FIELD, with and without the descriptor Engineering + Advisory.

About the firm: Charter & Field is a new civil engineering and advisory practice serving municipalities, utilities, public authorities and select private clients. Our operating model is Embedded Engineering: long-term institutional knowledge, board-level counsel, technical engineering and field execution from people who remain close to the client and the work.

Name meaning: Charter represents direction, governance, capital planning, funding strategy and senior judgment. Field represents engineering, infrastructure, construction, inspection and implementation. The ampersand is important because the firm operates between and across both worlds. Sentry is a subordinate philosophy of vigilance and stewardship; it must not appear as a separate logo or sub-brand.

Desired direction: A typography-led wordmark with a distinctive, elegant ampersand and an institutional-heritage character. It should feel established, intelligent, sophisticated, practical, civic-minded, technically capable and confident. The result must be credible in a board meeting, on a proposal or plan sheet, at a public works facility and on a construction site.

Avoid: house-shaped or architectural marks; literal bridges, roads, water drops, leaves, gears, hard hats, skylines, map pins or generic infrastructure icons; government seals; political aesthetics; trendy technology-startup styling; bulky contractor logos; stock monograms; gradients, shadows or effects required for recognition; and copied or AI-generated stock marks.

Color system: Charter Navy #183047, Foundry Black #1F2428, Sentry Bronze #9B7A45, Field Stone #C3BBB0 and Parchment #F6F3EC. The system must also work perfectly in one-color black and reversed white/Parchment. Times New Roman and Arial are the working system fonts around the brand, but the logo lettering should be custom-drawn or meaningfully refined—not simply typed in Times New Roman.

Required concepts: Submit the primary horizontal wordmark, a stacked option, the wordmark without descriptor and an optional compact C&F/CF mark derived from the primary system. The compact mark is secondary and will be used only if it remains recognizable at favicon, avatar, embroidery and plan-sheet sizes.

Required files and rights: Original vector artwork; AI or EPS, SVG and print-ready PDF; outlined and editable/source versions; RGB and CMYK versions; transparent PNG exports; full-color, one-color black and reversed versions; font names and licensing information; clear-space and minimum-size recommendations; and full commercial rights transfer. Disclose any generative-AI use. Do not submit stock marks, copied concepts or artwork that cannot be exclusively licensed/transferred."
