Brief de Design de Logo

Higher Ground Hospitality is a hospitality brand — rooted in stewardship, thoughtful spaces, and human connection. The company creates meaningful stays, partners with homeowners on thoughtful stewardship, and is building toward retreats, gatherings, and educational content. Every offer, from a guest stay to an owner partnership, is an expression of the same underlying philosophy: people rarely remember a property, they remember how they felt there.

The brand is guided by a Four Elements framework — Earth (stewardship, foundations, care), Water (experience, belonging, connection), Air (perspective, ideas, thoughtful leadership), Fire (transformation, possibility, new beginnings). This is a philosophical undercurrent, not something the logo needs to depict literally.

A related sub-brand, **The StayWell Collection**, sits under Higher Ground as its curated, guest-facing portfolio of stays. This contest is for the primary Higher Ground Hospitality mark; if a compatible StayWell mark comes up naturally in a designer's exploration, that's a welcome bonus but not required.

## Target Audience

- Discerning homeowners considering a stewardship partnership for their property
- Guests seeking a thoughtful, intentional stay rather than a generic vacation rental
- Real estate clients drawn to a more embodied, less transactional approach
- Future partners, collaborators, and press

The audience skews toward people who value quality over flash — they'd recognize themselves in brands like Aman, Blackberry Farm, Soho House, or Patagonia. Not because of price point, but because those brands each carry a clear, quiet point of view.

## Brand Personality

Grounded · Warm · Quietly confident · Editorial rather than promotional · Sophisticated without being exclusive · Calm instead of sales-driven

The logo should never feel corporate, trendy, loud, or "startup." It should feel like it could sit on a letterpress card, a linen guest towel, or a small brass plaque — equally at home in print and digital.

## Design Direction

**Style:** Editorial and refined, not decorative or ornate. Think: a boutique hospitality brand's mark, not a real estate agency's logo. Clean, timeless, quietly distinctive — the kind of mark that ages well rather than one built for a trend cycle.

**Wordmark vs. Symbol:** Open to either a wordmark-only treatment, a wordmark paired with a small mark/monogram, or a standalone symbol that can travel independently (favicon, social avatar, embossed stamp). A combination lockup (symbol + wordmark) that also breaks apart cleanly into its two pieces is ideal, since the mark will need to work both full and abbreviated.

**Typography feel:** The brand's existing type system pairs a lowercase editorial serif (Fraunces) for headers with a clean humanist sans-serif (Work Sans) for body copy. The logo doesn't need to use these exact typefaces, but should feel like it belongs in that world — warm serif character over geometric sans-serif starkness, if letterforms are involved. Lowercase treatment is worth exploring, in keeping with the brand's calm, unhurried voice.

**Optional symbolic reference:** The Four Elements (earth, water, air, fire) are a quiet undercurrent in the brand, not a mandate. A designer might find a subtle, abstract nod to one of them (e.g., a horizon line, a single quiet mark suggesting groundedness) interesting to explore — but this should never become literal (no flame icons, no water droplets, no globe-and-leaf clichés).

## Color Palette

- **Base:** soft white / warm cream — the dominant field the logo will usually sit on
- **Accent:** warm gold — used sparingly, as a glint rather than a dominant color
- **Grounding neutral:** deep charcoal or clay — never pure black

The primary logo should work as a single-color mark in charcoal (for use on cream/white backgrounds) and in cream/white (for use on dark or photographic backgrounds). A gold version is a nice-to-have variant but not the primary use case — gold as an accent, not the main logo color, matches how it's used throughout the rest of the brand.

## What to Avoid

- Anything that reads as a real estate agency, vacation-rental-platform, or generic "management company" logo (house icons, key icons, roofline silhouettes, pin/map-marker icons)
- Bright, saturated, or "tech" color palettes
- Overly literal nature icons (leaves, mountains, sunbursts) — feels generic for an Asheville-based brand and undercuts the editorial tone
- Script or overly decorative/luxury-cursive fonts — the brand is warm, not fussy or ornate
- Anything trendy that will look dated in 2–3 years
- Complex detail that won't hold up small (favicon, social avatar) or in single color

## Deliverables Needed

- Primary full-color logo (horizontal/lockup version)
- Single-color version (charcoal) for light backgrounds
- Single-color version (cream/white) for dark backgrounds
- Icon/symbol-only mark, if applicable, for favicon and social use
- Source files (AI or EPS, vector) plus PNG/SVG exports

## Usage Context

The mark needs to work across: website header (Fraunces/Work Sans site, cream-and-gold visual system), social media avatars, printed materials (business cards, welcome guides for guests), and small-scale digital use (favicon). It should hold up at both a large hero-banner scale and a tiny 32px favicon scale.

## Tagline / Supporting Language (for context only, not required in the mark)

Core belief: *"People rarely remember a property. They remember how they felt there."* This is the emotional register the mark should evoke — not literal, just the feeling: calm, cared-for, grounded, quietly elevated.
