thanks Adi Graphics. I'll be giving some general feedback today that you may be able to incorporate. Kellie
Hi Designers, Thank you for the mind-blowing array of wonderful designs submitted so far. Wow! Selecting one is going to be really hard. Having had a cursory review of the submissions the following may be a guide for you all going forward.
1. Detail: Some designs have a really high level of detail that would be really difficult to make out when the logo is small, such as in a signature block. If in doubt lean back into a simpler more mid-century feel. Also dont feel you have to throw everything at it- be discerning and respectful of space.
2. Typography: Some designs have a lot of flourishes verging on cursive. This does not fit within a mid-century brief.
3. Iconography: if you are going to use it, keep it Australian ie a bird should be a cockatoo or kookaburra not a dove. Otherwise it could be anywhere in the world. Also aim for individual not cliche'. There is a balancing act between wanting to reach a global audience for whom australian fauna is novel, and clients who are from other states in australia who have seen all the fauna references before and are bored of it. It should go without saying that sometimes the use of google vectors etc is a lazy way of going about things. Give us something really special.
4. Colours: we have provided you with the colours that will be in the website. A sound use of colour theory should be displayed so that the logo is complementary to the website and the right choice for an earthy palette. This does not necessarily mean using the colours we have provided. The colours should elevate the brand into the 'luxe' category. Some colours that are being used are not complementary to the colour palette. The use of bright green for example does not work with the website palette. Dont be afraid of hooking into complementary mid-century colours that might give a zing to the logo and make it stand out.
Please dont hesitate to contact me should you require further clarification but please do not ask me to do your job for you though- show us your creative prowess!!
Kind Regards
Mrs Kellie Bruce
Dear Designers,
A quick note requesting that you please update your designs to the correct typography and iconography. Art nouveau, American pub, scroll and cursive text do not fit the brief.
Please also remember to include the slogan in your design.
I have requested to extend the closing date to give you time for these changes.
Feel free to ask any questions.
