Brief de Web Design

I am the web developer for durangoherald.com and I am having a hard time coming up with a new design for the homepage and article page.

The goal is to make a new design and here are the sites the bosses told me they liked.

It is important to note that we need to have ads scattered around the page in a clean format. The top large banner needs to be there above the header.

Please make the mockup with real article titles and images so we can see what it would really look like and not use placeholders content that is not relatable.

I am good with some more innovation then the examples, they are pretty flat and basic except FT has some more modern aspects.
