Project Overview:
This project involves designing a tenant handbook to ensure tenants have essential information about their residences. The handbook should be approachable, organized, and visually engaging to encourage tenants to refer to it frequently. Key areas include contact information, tenant responsibilities, community guidelines, and property services.
Format and Dimensions:
- Size: 5.5 inches wide by 8.5 inches tall (standard booklet size)
- Covers: Front and back covers with visually engaging designs, potentially including a mix of modern graphics and imagery. You can use fake photos for placement, and we will replace them later
- File Format: Please provide an Adobe InDesign File.
Objectives:
1. Visual Identity: Develop a clean, cohesive, and professional look that aligns with our brand identity.
2. Engagement: Incorporate design elements that make the handbook inviting and easy to navigate.
Target Audience:
Current and new tenants, many of whom may be long-term residents. The design should appeal to a wide demographic, focusing on clarity, accessibility, and inclusivity.
Tone and Style:
The style should be friendly, informative, and straightforward. While a professional look is necessary, the tone should remain warm and welcoming. Avoid overly corporate aesthetics; instead, aim to balance professionalism and approachability. You can use the Toronto Housing Guidebook as inspiration.
Design Elements:
- Covers: Bold typography, friendly imagery, and abstract graphics. The front cover should include the title "[Property Name] Tenant Handbook."
- Color Scheme: A modern, neutral palette that feels welcoming—consider colours representing security and community.
- Typography: Clean and easy-to-read fonts for both headers and body text.
- Icons: Develop a set of icons to represent common topics (e.g., repairs, safety, community guidelines) for visual navigation.
Imagery: Select imagery that reflects a sense of community, inclusivity, and home. Consider using photos or illustrations lightly where applicable.
Content Structure & Design Considerations:
- Table of Contents: Clear and structured layout to help readers find sections quickly.
- Section Headers: Use consistent, bold headers for each section to ease navigation.
- Text Layout: Ensure text blocks are manageable, with appropriate spacing and margins for easy reading.
- Imagery/Graphics Integration: Where possible, include images or graphics that support the content. For example, visuals of community areas for sections on shared spaces.
Deliverables:
1. Front and back cover designs
2. Inner pages (section headers, typography, icons, layout principles)
3. The Final File must be delivered as an Adobe InDesign file.
