Brief de Design de Logo

We need a logo design for a unique entity at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga - the Scott L. Probasco Distinguished Chair of Free Enterprise.

At a university, a distinguished chair is similar to a major, department, program, or school and our work helps deepen understanding of a particular topic - in our case, we focus on economics and the American free enterprise system through research, contributing to public knowledge, and understanding economics both in theory and in practice.

Since our mission is complex it is important that our logo be simple and easy to understand. We would like to see modern designs that are simple, integrate the school colors either by using them (gold, navy, and white) or picking something complementary to them, and feature something symbolic of exchange/trade. In particular, something that features a variation of this intertwined symbol for Catallaxy (or Catallactics) - images attached.

The inspiration is the Greek verb katallassō basically means to change or exchange. It was often used as a monetary term referring to changing or exchanging money, but in general it referred to exchanging one thing for another. A common use of katallassō was in reference to changing someone from an enemy into a friend, that is, bringing together or reconciling two people or parties that are at odds with each other. Catalyx is inspired by the word Catallaxy (or Catallactics) which refers to the theory of how market properties (such as prices) emerge through the actions of individuals. It can be used as another term for ‘economy’ and originates from the Greek word katallassō meaning ‘to exchange’.

Inspiration phrase: “The crossroads of trade are the meeting place of ideas, the attrition ground of rival customs and beliefs; diversities beget conflict, comparison, thought; superstitions cancel one another, and reason begins.” Think about highlighting this idea of the crossroads of trades or the marketplace for ideas!

Logo Inspo 1 - this is a sample of a key element we want in the logo which is the symbol for reconciliation/katallasso - which is this double infinity/unity symbol - also looks like the Windows command key. We also like this look of a "coin" which fits into the economy theme. Wording on the outside band and a symbol inside.

Logo Inspo 2 - The leftside are two current logos from UTC - one is the new Quantum Center (super modern and clean) and the other is our old logo for social media - this is very, very cluttered with words and does not print well on merchandise. The two center columns are some visuals for elements that are important and hard to describe. The organic, flowy feel as well as the idea of movement or exchange/interchange is important. Strong use of symbols, color, and growth/movement is good. The last far right column deals well with words. We know this is a problem with our request. Having lots of words is going to clutter up the design. How can we deal with this? The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) is best symbolized by their "Power C" which you can see in the logos on the far left - should we layer this on somehow and then remove the wording for UTC? The important part is that people knos this is "The Probasco Chair" or UTC Probasco Chair" or like our social handles "UTCProbascoEcon" - would appreciate someone giving good/creative ways to minimize wording ont he logo or options for the symbol with and without the wording.

• I'd like to see clean, crisp design with minimal words. You can see the Logo Inspo 2 sample (left side) that shows too many words of our old logo! It needs to be easily printable on merchandise. I'd like an organic, modern feel that is grounded in tradition but a fresh perspective.
