We are looking for a cover design for our new educational book titled "Spiders of California".
The full title on the cover can either only be "Spiders of California" or "Common Spiders of California - a field guide". Up to you what looks good. If the latter, the words "Spiders of California" should be written in larger letters.
The book has a lot information about spiders in general and provides a convenient and understandable identification guide about spiders in California.
The target audience are normal, non-scientist readers who would like to get a simple guide that helps them identify common spiders they will find inside their homes and gardens.
The book is written in an understandable, non-scientific language and contains numerous illustrations and identification sheets of all common spiders.
We are fairly open to suggestions about the design. It should not be too plain as it is not a classic boring science book, but aimed at the average reader. Readers are both male and female, aged 30 and above.
If you know nothing about spiders but would like to know what the spiders in your backyard are, which ones are dangerous and if you want to learn more about spiders, this should be the book you will want to buy!
The author is Mike Mirano. In addition to the author, the book cover should show "USAspiders.com" - The author can be at the bottom and the website on the top or vice versa.
The cover size is 6" x 9" (15.24 x 22.86 cm). The book has around 150 pages. The back of the book should have a placeholder for the barcode as well as some text. It should also have a quick overview of the main benefits of the book: Easily understandable for non-scientist readers, helpful illustrations, tips on how to deal with spiders in the house and with spider bites. We will obviously add the text later.
I've attached a few of the illustrations as I think they could be used to already give the reader a feeling what they will get with the book. If you think a stock photo will work better than the illustrations, that is fine too.
