ULTIMATE COMPASSION
The bereavement program of the P.U.N.T. Pediatric Cancer Collaborative
It is not easy to think about, much less talk about. And living the reality of it is an indescribable journey of heartache and survival. When a child dies from pediatric cancer, a family has already suffered financially and emotional devastation from the battle itself and now they must find a way to carry on.
Based on feedback from our hospital partners and families dealing with life-altering grief and loss, P.U.N.T. Pediatric Cancer Collaborative has built a bereavement program that has become a critical source of help for families who must walk in these most difficult shoes.
REMEMBRANCE WEEKEND
Each year, P.U.N.T. brings together families who have suffered a loss to pediatric cancer together in support of one another for our annual Remembrance Weekend. This program provides a mix of therapeutic and social activities to provide parents and siblings with tools to carry their loss within a community of those who understand their plight. The retreat is also a perpetual means of honoring the memory of their loved one. Through a grant from Moore for Kids and P.U.N.T.s fundraising efforts, there is no cost for families to attend.
P.U.N.T. also coordinates supplemental therapeutic activities throughout the year leading up to Remembrance Weekend to reinforce relationships and provide abiding support.
FUNERAL EXPENSES
P.U.N.T. strives to provide funeral assistance for every child who is lost to pediatric cancer. The cost of childhood cancer is debilitating and no parent should have to worry about having the resources to lay their child to rest. Requests are submitted on behalf of families by our medical social worker partners. P.U.N.T. also provides a Care Package to newly bereaved families to let them know they don’t walk this journey alone.
Testimonials:

Thank you, P.U.N.T., for giving us a place where we belong.
--Sharon Hirsch (bereaved mom to Jacquie)
“I cannot stop thinking about Remembrance Weekend. It had a profound effect on me and was easily the most healing thing we have done since Carmella passed. Nothing makes it better, but I do feel a little more able to face the world having met those amazing people.” -Amanda Rossi (bereaved mom to Carmella)
“You have truly blessed us with a program that that has helped us through the most difficult event of our lives.” -David Johnson (bereaved dad to Tyler)
“It is not over-stating that P.U.N.T.’s bereavement efforts have become a lifeline for grief-stricken parents in our community. We are indebted to P.U.N.T. for recognizing the need for this service and creating this powerful vehicle of hope and healing. -Dr. Brandee Aquilino, PsyD Medical Psychologist at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center
