Brief de Design de Logo

Need a logo for a new real estate development company that specializes in ultra-high-end resort, golf, and amenity-based master-planned communities around the world. David Southworth began his career in Arizona so we'd like a bit of a southwestern feel to the logo. We like the Hermosa Ranch logo and provided a sketch of how that would look modified for David Southworth Co. but we of course don't want to copy the Hermosa logo exactly but we like that general layout idea. Other logos we like are provided for design inspiration (Copper Rose, Dos Robles, Hermosa Ranch, and Vida & Paz). We'd also very much like to be able to pull out the initials "DS" element in some sort of stylized circle at the top of the full logo to use separately as a secondary logo without the rest of the full logo. So it would be great for that DS circle element to have some character and unique design to it.

• UPDATE: I'm seeing several submissions that have the words "David" and "Southworth" the same prominence in the design. I want to clarify that "Southworth" should be the most prominent/dominant word in the logo. "David" would come next in prominence with "Co." coming last.
  
  Must be able to work well in 1 color in addition to full color. Must have an interesting and unique "DS" initials element as part of the full logo that has enough character to be used on its own as well.
