Project scope: I would like to hire someone to illustrate 10 metaphors/similes/analogies in a comic/cartoon style. This brief is only for illustrating the 1st analogy listed below. The winning designer will be expected to illustrating the remaining 9 designs @ $40/illustration (an additional $360). Picture of manager is attached.
Back story: Our team's beloved manager just announced today that he is leaving the company for a new role. He is known for constantly using funny metaphors, similes, and analogies in meetings to communicate his message and keep things entertaining. Completely unrelated to his departure, we have been documenting these analogies for over a year. We would like to create a children's style flipbook with illustration that go along with the (10) analogies listed below. These are very much inside jokes and will likely not make much sense to you so I have provided some "illustration guidance" comments to give you an idea of how I want it to look but please use some creative liberties!
Analogy #1 - ONLY SUBMIT AN ILLUSTRAION(S) FOR THIS ANALOGY!
What he said: All of our priorities are like a stack of pancakes. The pancakes on top get the most syrup and then as the syrup drips down the sides the pancakes, the bottom get a little less.
Illustration guidance: Draw a big stack of pancakes with syrup running down the sides. Add labels to the pancakes that read “Manufacturing Aids”, “Orthotics & Prosthetics”, “Automotive”, “Education”, and “Parts Providers”.
Analogy #2
What he said: Most people have a bucket list where they want to go sky-diving or climb a mountain; I just want to launch Search in Japan!
Illustration guidance: Image of a guy checking off his bucket list. Show “sky-diving” and “climb a mountain” as crossed out / completed and “launch search in Japan” as the next uncomplete item in the list.
EDIT - Shows though bubbles of him skydiving and climbing a mountain as he's crossing off his list.
Analogy #3
What he said: We're all going to take the blue pill and get into the matrix together
Illustration guidance: Show group of people all with a single blue pill in their hand and labels on their backs/front that read “Sales”, “Marketing”, “Category”, “Service”, and “GBU”
Analogy #4
What he said: There is an order from pot to LSD to cocaine, we don’t want to break that order. How do we onboard them to the recreational drugs first?
Illustration guidance: Illustration guidance: He’s was referring to a marketing customer journey. Show 3 different people (customers) from left to right that each show the side effects of these different drugs. Pot = chill/hungry, LSD = hallucinating, and cocaine = amped up / wild.
Analogy #5
What he said: Marketers are like coal miners. We bring up a shit-load of coal and our ISRs only know how to accept diamonds.
Illustration guidance: Show team members (see attached pics) dragging cartloads of coal up a rail track to a group of people (ISRs = Inside Sales Reps) sitting with their feet up on their desks reading / goofing off. Show a bucket of diamonds sitting on their desk that they're not paying attention to.
Analogy #6
What he said: It was originally supposed to be a sizzling steak but now it's turned into more of a sausage patty
Illustration guidance: He was referring to a big event we were supposed to host called then “Fall NPI Launch Event”. This one is tough. Maybe show a guy thinking about a big, juicy steak but what’s actually in front of him is a dinky sausage patty with a tag/label on it that reads “Fall NPI Launch Event”
Analogy #7
What he said: You don't want to just open the kimono and share everything.
Illustration guidance: Show a geisha starting to open up her kimono and it says “marketing secrets – social, search, HP.com, events, ABM, email nurture, and webinars” inside
Analogy #8
What he said: We want to make sure we don't talk to the Chinese Bakery down the street
Illustration guidance: Show a guy in front of or inside of a Chinese bakery asking “Do you want to buy a 3D printer?” with a shirt that says “ISR” on it
Analogy #9
What he said: I feel like you guys are fishing with 1,000 fishing poles. Maybe you catch 5 fish on the hook but if you're not there to reel them in then we never catch them.
Illustration guidance: Show picture of a person with a ton of fishing poles set up along the shore. Show a fish on the line of one of the poles that the person isn’t near. Put a label on the person’s shirt that ready “Regional Marketing Manager”.
EDIT - Use attached "regional market manager" team members for this one!
Analogy #10
What he said: All we can suggest is when they (ISRs) should eat the meat so they don't get sick because I don't want to hear them barfing all night
Illustration guidance: Draw a picture of a person barfing into a toilet with a piece of raw meet beside them and a speech bubble next to the person that reads “These leads suck!” Put a tag on their shirt that says “ISR”
