Brief de Design de Logo

We require a logo that represents golf in St Andrews for embroidery on our golfing apparel (eg on the chest or sleeves of sweaters) or printed on small accessories and merchandise.

St Andrews, in Scotland, is regarded as the home of golf and the town attracts visitors from around the world who are keen to play on the golf courses there, in particular, the Old Course which is the most famous golf course in the world.

Our company, which is based in St Andrews, makes high quality, classic golf apparel from the finest natural and performance fabrics. Our customers are discerning gentlemen and women golfers. Our range comprises poloshirts, sweaters, outerwear, headwear and other items.
The logo we are seeking will be used alongside our own branding on our apparel and merchandise which will be made available for sale to visitors to St Andrews. Visitors are keen to buy apparel and merchandise that has a St Andrews golf logo to serve as a memento of their trip.

There are a number of crests/logos already in existence and used by companies and other organisations. We attach some of these for your information and as background. Some of these are trademarked. Our crest/logo needs to be distinctly different from these so there is no confusion but inevitably there will be similarities.

The St Andrews town crest does not present any intellectual property/trademark issues. It is also shown for background. It is used as the basis by some golf memorabilia providers in the town.

Detailed Requirements
• Look and feel should be traditional yet modern
• The logo should feature a representation of St Andrew and a cross. A broader cross is preferred to a narrower one.
• The St Andrew figure needs to have a halo and a beard
• The logo should also include 3 small balls/circles representing golf balls.
• The logo may or may not incorporate crossed golf clubs facing upwards (like Royal Lytham) or downwards (like Prestwick) or not at all
• Neither the boar nor the tree from the St Andrews town crest should be part of the logo
• The wording “St Andrews” and “Scotland” should be included in block capitals. This maybe within the logo itself or around it.
• The town’s motto of “Dum Spiro Spero” may or may not be included
• Bear in mind the logo will be embroidered so a fairly simple design is required
• The embroidered logo, when on a sweater, will be around 5-6cm cm high
• The logo should be in a single colour. The colour used will vary and depend on the colour of the garment on which it is being embroidered.
