- HERE IS THE NEWSPAPER ARTICLE OF THE PURCHASE SO YOU CAN GET A FEEL FORM THE PLACE
- EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Local business owner Chris Brown has taken ownership of Piston’s Bar and Grill as of Thursday afternoon.
- He's an Evansville native who owns other establishments in town including Cool Breeze Vapor and Styl Salon Suites.
- Over the years, Brown has seen Franklin Street grow, and he said he wants to do his part to add to the momentum.
- "I see Franklin Street as maybe a little Downtown Nashville one day — that's what I see it as. It's growing," Brown said. "Franklin is a cool place, and I want to fix this place up and make it successful."
- He said that by working with the other bar owners on the strip and the homeowners in the area, together, they can make Franklin a destination area.
- Brown will be bringing his family on board to help with the revamp of the bar. His wife, Sandy Brown, and his son, Chase Brown, love the West Side of Evansville and also see a lot of potential in the area, he said. Renovations will begin in January. The restaurant-side of the business will remain open through the renovations, and the bar-side will be closed for about 30 days while they give it a makeover. During the renovation, there will still be food and alcohol served.Renovations will also be done to the upstairs balcony area. Brown will put in new bathrooms, ceilings and give the bar a new overall look.
- Along with the new look will come a name change and new food and drink menu. What will stay the same is a lot of the staffing. One of the most important factors as Brown made this acquisition was to make sure people could keep their jobs.“I don’t want to lose any of the employees. They are all smart and hardworking. They care about this bar and the clients," said Brown. "They're really nice, some of them have been here from the beginning, and I don’t want anyone to lose their job. That’s not how I operate.”
- Brown said he's been meeting with the staff over the past week to get an idea of what changes they would like to see made to the bar.
- “I need to learn about this place and what everybody wants," he said. "It’s not just my vision, so I need to listen to the staff and customers and community."
- He's also asking for the community's feedback on what kind of bar they want to see. Brown's goal is to bring something new to the area and create a fun, safe environment for Evansville residents to enjoy.
- "I'm so excited I can barely sleep," he said. "It's going to be a challenge, but I like challenges. I'm going to try to work with the other bars, keep it friendly."
- Brown is welcoming the community to reach out with ideas on the Piston's Facebook Page. There will also be an email listed on the page that they can reach out to.
