Brief de Design de Logo

I need a logo for a software product. This software is web-based and lets faculty members of a university post details about their activities. For example, presentations they have given, articles they have written, military service, etc.

I included a public-domain logo which I like, but I am open to other interpretations as well.

I am also a fan of the Higher Ed emblematic styles found in this image:

In lieu of a map or globe in the image, I also think a compass rose could also work, as it hold imagery of maps.

• The graphical (non-text) part of the logo should be easy to crop, so it can stand on its own as an icon or favicon. The graphical part should still look nice when scaled to 50px tall or 64px tall.

• Because of the name, I had considered playing with the logo looking like a road atlas or map. I included a public-domain logo which I like, but I am open to other interpretations as well.
