Brief de Design de Logo

We need a logo design for a new musical appearing in the New York City Musical Theatre Festival this summer, which is the biggest of its kind and the origin of "Next to Normal", "Title of Show", and other hits.

Our story, "Swing State", about a gay liberal chiropractor and a conservative born-again schoolteacher colliding in the battleground state of Ohio (or "swing state" as its called in political terms), and eventually needing one another to get by.

We will need a square logo that is suitable for print (hi res, 300 dpi, CMYK) that is no smaller than 5” x 5” as well as one that is suitable for web usage (72 dpi, RGB). It should really pop our title and use a distinctive font that will look dynamic in many formats - postcards, newsletters, web ads, etc.

In addition to the title, we also want the logo to include the text: A NEW MUSICAL, to best inform our potential audience.

The tone of our story is that of a comedy-drama. It has a light spirit, but surprises the audience with streaks of darkness and drama, too. An additional edge comes from the fact that it addresses the culture war in the US in a bold way that (we hope) fairly represents both sides. We want something that feels ACTIVE and full of energy, rather than calm and peaceful. The story's about COLLISION, after all.

And although there's a political element, we don't want folks to think it's just a political review, we want it to feel like a personal story first, and politics can take second place to that. That said, we aren't adverse to playing with red and blue and mixing them up as a play on the political color themes or red states and blue states.

We do think it would be nice to involve a swingset, or a trapeze, or some form of physical swing, maybe the letters are swinging into place? We're open to anything that inspires, and we're also open to designs that don't utilize swings at all - only an idea.

Although we plan on reviewing submissions for 10 days, this is a sooner-the-better situation as our need is urgent and we are anxious to lock a logo down. So if we see one we love, it's possible we'll choose it, rather than wait for the window to close.
