Yes, you can - but do not necessarily need to - incorporate known symbols for "woman" and "man".
You can elaborate on them. And equality between them.
The logo should also try to convey the fact that we are a collaborative network.
And European.
And working on developing scientific research!
Your creatvie ideas are most welcome !!

I checked out the first design you sent.
I quite like your target-like shape, which also resonates with the idea networking and targeting different levels.
I also almost see the "woman" symbol upside down, but with two horizontal lines : are these meant to remind of the "equal" symbol?
