Brief de Design de Logo
We are developing a social network for professionals that manage zero waste programs at the federal, state, and local government levels in the United States. We are looking for a designer to create a logo for the site, as well as a splash image for the home page. Logos and splash images are to be submitted separately, referencing each other. The first place award will go to the winning logo designer and the second place award will go to the winning splash image designer.
Background:
A working definition of zero waste, offered by the Zero Waste International Alliance states: "Zero Waste is a goal . . .to guide people in changing their lifestyles and practices to emulate sustainable natural cycles, where all discarded materials are designed to become resources for others to use. Zero Waste means designing and managing products and processes to systematically avoid and eliminate the volume and toxicity of waste and materials, conserve and recover all resources, and not burn or bury them. Implementing Zero Waste will eliminate all discharges to land, water or air that are a threat to planetary, human, animal or plant health." To learn information on zero waste, visit the Zero Waste International Alliance at http://zwia.org/.
Requirements:
Site template - We are building this site on a platform known as Dolphin created by Boonex. The site template we are using is was designed by BrickSteel Enterprises InfoTech Private Limited, or BSETec for short. A demo of the template is available at http://bsetec.com/demo/free_templates/index.php?skin=hopelife. Note that the colors for the buttons at the top of the page, the navigation bar, and fonts are final. The logo and splash image should coordinate with these existing colors
Logo - Note the placement of the logo in the upper left corner of the page. The logo in the demo is labeled, "HOPE 4 LIFE Online charity foundation". The logo, when displayed on the site, cannot be greater than 60 high by 370 wide. The position and maximum dimensions of the logo are set by the off-the-shelf template and cannot be changed. It is preferable that the site name, "Zero Waste Connection" be a part of the logo so that the site name displays prominently on all pages. We will also use the logo in collateral materials when marketing the site or linking to it from partner sites, so it should also stand on its own. That said, a separate, stand-alone version of the logo can also be proposed for this purpose. Ideally the logo would convey a sense of connectedness since the site is a social network aimed at connecting people.
Splash Image - The splash image, and the site template for that matter, is scalable. Our goal is for the splash image to fill a sizable amount of the view on the homepage, leaving the navigation visible in the bottom portion of the screen. The width of the design should be 1420. The height of the splash image can vary, but should not be more than 600. The splash image may be a photograph or a design.
Mises à jour
I would like to thank all of you for taking time to be a part of our design competition. We are away from the office for holiday break between now and January 2nd. If you have not heard specific feedback from us, we will follow-up when we are back in the office. In the meantime, we are extending the deadline by one week to allow time for revisions based on feedback.

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: Hi All. Thanks so much to all who have submitted designs. We're back from holiday and reviewing submissions now. We'll follow-up with feedback shortly. We are also extending the deadline by two weeks to allow time to focus group the designs with our advisory committee and have some back-and-forth with designers based on their feedback. Thanks for your patience while we work through this process. Also, if you have not yet submitted a splash image, please consider doing so. We have a lot of great logo submissions but very few splash image submissions. Take another look at the brief for background on the two and how the award will be split based on the best designs in each category - logo and splash image.
Regards,
Andy

Marché(s) Cible(s)
The people that will interact through this site are professionals that are reaching out to individual consumers, businesses, and institutions in their areas and engaging them in thinking about the products they purchase and planning for the end-of-life of those products. The audience is fairly diverse in the sense that local officials or nonprofits working to implement programs "on the ground" have a very different perspective than those rolling out initiatives state-wide or even nationally.
These zero waste programs use a number of strategies to further their goals, from setting up new recycling programs for difficult to manage wastes, to educating consumers/businesses/institutions on waste diversion opportunities, to building infrastructure that supports zero waste objectives.
The Zero Waste Connection will allow program managers to share resources, discuss program challenges, learn of training opportunities, and connect with their peers doing similar work across the U.S.
