If I understand correctly, you have a logo (attached PDF file) and you need to develop a symbol that will be used in conjunction with the text. For example Sony-Ericsson has a text part of the logo and symbol.
Or do you need an icon for the software application?
If you need a first, this work will be in a category "Logo design" but not in "Icon design". Many designers can get confused ;)
