I'm looking for an illustrator for a children's book. It's a story about Lewis the moon who is a little depressed because the stars get to shoot everywhere, and his life doesn't seem fun. But then he's given a new perspective when he sees the way he's helping people/animals on earth. The main character is the moon and his moods. The sadder he gets, the more he dims to a crescent (like the phases of the moon)
I would need 13 illustrations, which includes the cover. Most illustrations would spread across two pages. The illustrator would get credit on the cover as well. I'm going to self publish it on Amazon Create Space, and your illustrations would only be used for this book. Illustrations should be whimsical/minimalist, flirting with grey scale, but pops of occasional color and a yellow glow for the moon, similar to the style of "The Little Prince". Pretty and simple pictures. I would like for there to be little color in the beginning, but gradually add more color as the story proceeds, to go along with the Moon's moods. Grey colors in the beginning, but in the end, a really rich and colorful dark blue/purple sky.
Here are some excerpts from the book, so you can see what you would be getting into, and to not waste your time. Feel free to submit one illustration based on the excerpts below:
1 Illustration spread out onto two pages:
Lewis was in darkness,
Yes, all the time he was.
The monotony of movement,
(as with everybody does),
Made Lewis blue and lonesome,
‘Cause with every day the same
It was often hard to tell,
When days ended and when days came.
He went through all the motions,
With little variation,
He ellipsed just like the days before,
No change in navigation.
1 single illustration spread across two pages:
Just when his light was almost out,
A red balloon passed by.
She glanced at Lewis casually,
And saw tears shine in his eyes.
“You look so very sad, dear friend.
What could possibly be wrong?
You’re the moon that is so loved,
That shines light all year long.”
Lewis then explained to her,
All the reasons why,
He couldn’t make a difference
While stuck up in the sky.
“I want to help somebody, see galaxies galore!
I want to leave this place, I want to go explore!”
“But Lewis, you’re important,
You matter very much,
You just need new perspective-,
An ocular retouch.”
The red balloon had with her,
Binoculars to show,
The impact Lewis had,
On all the lives below.
1 illustration on one page:
As Lewis looked in closer,
He focused on a hippo,
She hid beneath the leaves,
She was lost and very little.
1 Illustration on 1 page:
She waited ‘til the trees grew quiet,
Then galloped brave and fast,
Guided by the light of Lewis,
She found her home at last
I know this isn't a big budget, but am giving this a shot as I really believe in this story, and am wanting more minimalist pictures.

Doit avoir
- The red balloon holding the binoculars with it's string.
Bien d'avoir
- Little child-iike drawn stars
- I attached sample pictures of styles that I enjoy and am inspired by.
Ne doit pas comporter
- Not too cartoony, but obviously whimsical since it's a talking moon with mood swings.
- No blaring colors, I like more water color style, and pencil sketches. Doesn't have to be this exact style, but I'm going more towards that.
