For the most part it would be good to use white space effectively (as gmail does), using colour to highlight action points, and to contain sections. I am happy for any color scheme to be used just as long as its not visually offensive and there aren't too many competing colors.

That said, I do like light blues, grays and blacks, for example I really like the footer of this site, and the UI for the music player at the bottom of www.grooveshark.com looks great (only appears when a song is playing).
