Brief de Design de Couverture de Livre

Book publisher needs cover for 5 x 8 book.
Title: THE BLACK SWORD
Author: MARK A. HADLEY
This book is the second in the Saga of the Sundering Sea Series and should conform to the previous cover (file attached).

These are the latest instructions from the author:
• I really like this cover - it’s the best of the ones you’ve sent through so far. I definitely think it conveys ‘action’ to a young fantasy market, and I’m not afraid of the dark colour palette. It works with the sinister title.
• I love the way the city is still a clear part of the story, but in a subtle way. I also think that the boy chosen is a good match for a young Ren.
• I think we’d need to do a couple of things to reinforce that the cover is part of a set that includes The Red City, like using the same title font, moving the title to the same position (the bottom of the cover), and the author’s name to the top, as well as adding the Vol2 strap line in the same position.
• The boy’s hand and the sword … the sword needs to be changed to something that represents the two-handed sword that the book is written about. It would be much larger. I’ll attach a picture. And the way the boy’s hand is holding it looks just that bit awkward / unnatural. Maybe it and the sword should be tilted up a bit, as though he were about to swing it?

I am attaching his image of the sword and the publisher's logo for the spine and back cover.

The successful artist will receive an additional $50 in May to make the jacket complete -- that is, fit the Lightning Source guidelines.
