Brief de Design Illustration

CityKidz is a faith based organization that provides programming and support for children living in low income communities in Hamilton, Ontario. Each week over 2000 children receive a personal home visit by a volunteer or staff member and on Saturday’s children are bussed in on a big red CityKidz bus to our Theatre, to experience a dynamic 90 minute interactive show. For more info check out our website: www.citykidz.ca . CityKidz is often described as one part Mother Teresa and one part Walt Disney. Each Saturday show is a mixture of skits, games, and interactive lessons that both entertain and teach kids ages 6-12 important lessons rooted in faith, hope and love. Recently, we’ve taken over a warehouse and we are building a new Theatre auditorium. While we have determined the general layout, we are looking for ideas for a themed set and stage design. We want to create an inspirational environment that fills kids with hope, exemplifies our values of faith, hope and love, and inspires kids to dream big. Our existing theatre that we're moving from, is an old vauldeville theatre called the “Playhouse”. We’d like to include elements from it, in our new design, such as the blue archway over the stage. I’ve included a picture for reference. The PDF that i’ve included is a rough sketch of the layout of our new studio that you can use as the template. The left and right of the stage is the backdrop & where we need to design a set. Our first idea that we’re interested is to turn the set into a “city” with buildings etc that could compose of a fictional neighbourhood. We are big Disney fans, so much of our inspiration is taken from the whimsy of Disney. We’re open to other ideas as well, and looking for designs that inspire and are fun and whimsical.

• NEW:
• SIGNAGE: We've added a marquee sign (JPG because the eps is too big) that can go between the two pillars. The side curtains will hide the pillars. Don't feel like you need to just plunk the JPG into place; it's been made with too much curtain until we figure out what works best.
• BACKGROUND: Our thinking is that the wall have a street-like effect where the buildings are retro-styled so the red stage really stand out. The buildings should fit the physical space and appear to be on the same street (not jumbled) as if you could go from place to place. We've got too many buildings so don't feel you need to use them all.
• Behind them could be the silhouette of bigger buildings with a mountain range behind that to give the impression of depth. File have all been added so please use them; we want your design skills, so don't waste time redrawing everything! : )
• Thinking further, maybe the wall at the top could be a midnight black/blue with stars twinkling.
