Brief de Design de Logo

We have an existing logo that we aren't exactly unhappy with but would like to see some other options. We're a church that values service, community, and missions.
The logo should 'pop' but should also be versatile enough to be used across a variety of formats. It is important to have a modern font style. Not opposed to Christian symbolism in the logo if well done. I will attach two current versions of the logo we have to give you an idea of where we currently stand. I want something a bit more modern but not too corporate. In other words a bit unique and not something that could be mistaken for an insurance office or a city government. We live in a place that means "the dawn" so there is some symbolism with the sun and water but the values of community and service and welcoming are more important that the physical geography so I would like to see something that doesn't incorporate the sun and water. Though we want the logo to "pop" I'd like to stay away from oranges and yellows and light blues if possible.

I've uploaded a logo from a church that I think captures the essence of what I'm talking about. I want our logo to be original of course, but I think it might give you a 'flavour' of what I mean by modern. Look at the logo that says 'reality'
