Brief de Design de Logo

I am looking for a logo design for a Pharmaceutical consulting company called PEN Pharma Consulting. The word "Consulting" does not need to be in the logo. We consult on the manufacturing side of pharmaceuticals (e.g. make tablets, sterile products, etc). Specifically I am a technical writer skilled at taking all the detailed science and summarizing it in a very easy to ready story.

The term PEN has dual meaning. First off the obvious is the writing element of what I do. Second, PEN stands for Pharmaceutical Experience Now. I am open to all kinds of ideas but I want the logo to look very professional (not cartoon-y) and convey a high degree of technical competency as I will be directly interfacing with FDA and other Health Authorities.
