Yes - a cartoon like logo would be fine.

One thing we''re noticing is a consistent perception of what a "geek" is.  We''re seeing a lot of the old-school way of thinking - nerdy looking, freckles/acne, big glasses, etc.  We would encourage designers to think in more of a new world way - "Geek is the new cool".  Glasses may still work well, but we probably want to shy away from the old style haircuts and such.
