Brief de Web Design

Trió Carmel is a new store in California that offers a large variety of premium, fresh olive oils and balsamic vinegars for tasting and purchase. These products will appeal to health conscious individuals of all ages and desired by those that consider themselves fit, healthy, and love their food. The stores will also carry high-end contemporary art from local artists to enhance the contemporary feel of the store and add to the ambiance / experience.

The logo (attached) may help with the design approach. See attached documents. I have also uploaded some pictures of art.

The main objective of this design exercise is to solicit ideas for overall design (look and feel, color, layout) and the menuing system.

The website design is not a trivial exercise as it needs to be simple, clean, crisp and contemporary, while being easy to navigate and to easily purchase products. When someone comes to our home page we want them to feel they have never been to a site like this and yet find it easy to get to the information they need. It can not be busy. The look and feel should be fitting with our logo and the type of contemporary art we carry.

The menu system will be extremely important. We don't want too many menu items (ideally 5 max) yet we have to make it intuitive to find products and information. We are interested in your ideas for naming these menu items based on your experience with other site. For example, should we have "Contact" as a main menu item or is there an intuitive way of putting contact info in another category...or somewhere completely different on the page? Another challenge, we don't want to use the generic term "products" but using "Balsamic Vinegars" and "Olive Oils" may be too long.

The products we will carry include
- olive oils (20- 30)
- balsamic vinegars (15-20)
- accessories for oils and vinegars such as bottles (40- 50)
- art (3 - 5 artists)
- possibly wine later (10-15)

Olive oils could be categorized in the following ways. We may need to pick one approach or figure out a way to let customers navigate the options based on their interests and taste?
- Alphabetically
- Their origin (region, Europe , South America)
- Olive type (Greek, Italian, etc.)
- Flavor (peppery, smooth, infused/flavored...)
- Top sellers
- and possibly other options we haven't considered yet.

Balsamic Vinegars will be categorized primarily by flavor.

Accessories should be found independently from other products but will also be sorted by appropriateness. Example, olive oil spouts under olive oils or balsamic bottle holders under balsamics.

Art is a little easier as there will be only a few artists under which we will display a small number of pieces of their work. They will be categorized by name.

In each scenario we will want the customer to easily navigate to the particular "product page" which will contain an image of the product and all the information they will need. Note, we source the products in bulk so all the bottles will look similar ...with our logo. We won't offer different shapes and sizes from different producers.

Each product page will have a summary of the product with "more information" available to the user. The "purchase now" should be intuitive. Available bottle sizes will be 220ml, 375 ml, 750ml

As noted above, we will want a display area for relevant accessories and other product recommendations based on other peoples purchases (or what we think is a good companion).

If there is more information that would help with the process let me know.
