Brief de Design de Logo

I need a logo for a public affairs company that does government affairs work (lobbying), advocacy and grassroots training and crisis communications training. The principal, Scott Hildebrand, speaks at a number of conferences on those topics as well as non-profit and real estate law. I like blue as a color and the current logo (Vistaprint default) uses a compass rose, which is something I like a great deal. The final design should communicate the company's tagline which is, "Handcrafted Advocacy and Actionable Communications Strategies for You." I am in Seattle, so I am trying to coop the whole handcrafted ethic along with a generally nautical theme.
