Yahoo! will launch a new logo next month. We decided to throw the challenge out to our design community to create a new logo for Yahoo!. Designs can be serious, satirical or humorous. All ideas welcome!
Background: After 17 years, the veteran Internet brand has decided it needs a new logo. Today Kathy Savitt, the Chief Marketing Officer for Yahoo!, announced that Yahoo! would be showing a new logo every day until the official unveiling of the logo in September.
"Over the past year [since new CEO Marissa Mayer took joined the company], there’s been a renewed sense of purpose and progress at Yahoo!, and we want everything we do to reflect this spirit of innovation. While the company is rapidly evolving, our logo — the essence of our brand — should too."
"The new logo will be a modern redesign that’s more reflective of our reimagined design and new experiences."
"We also want to preserve the character that is unique to Yahoo! — fun, vibrant, and welcoming — so we’ll be keeping the color purple, our iconic exclamation point and of course the famous yodel. "
Create a logo that reflect's Yahoo's "spirit of innovation" but incorporates Yahoo!'s "fun and vibrant character".
