madame could you provide a little more info.
What exactly you need. Do you need a photo or you need a drawing of cinderalla as your book cover. Should we draw a lady like in that books or should we use some photos for your book cover :)

Dear Madame,

Is it going to be an e-book or a traditional book? If the latter, what are the sizes of the book?
Would you like a subtitle? If yes, what does it say?
What kind of surroundings do you imagine?
What characteristic should the girl have (haircolor, hairstyle, how much make-up, expression on her face, etc.)?
How do you imagine the girl's pose on the cover? On the covers you provided there was one who turned her back and two who were standing sideways. Which do you prefer?
Would you like a photograph or an illustration?
What type of fonts do you prefer?

Some of these information are very important so please answer them so I can try to create the most exact cover you imagined. :)
Thank you

has anyone recived feedback or any proof the client is following this?

par Coolbloggertriesevaluation le jeudi 20 août 2015

I wanted to join this contest as it seemed very interesting, but after seeing the lack of feedback given, and uncertainty from the comments above I don't think it's worth it.

Good luck to the designer who wins this contest (if anyone is even picked; the author seems a bit M.I.A as I do not see any interaction from them here), and best wishes for all of the designers who entered this contest! I wish you all success.

Hello, I am unsure to participate in this contest, could you post links to the mentioned references?

Hi and thanks for the feedback.
Thank you for your comments even though they are negative in context.
There is little to go on in your brief apart from the girl in the red ball-gown.
OK, you mentioned the book is YA, the title is Cinderella and that is all as designers, have to go on.
Not very comprehensive!
Perhaps If you provided more information about what you envisage, i.e.whether the book is a modern fairytale or a more realistic story, set in the present/past etc. if the girl is blonde, brunette etc, any of this would give a frame of reference for the background imagery.
To a designer, what you have provided in your brief is the equivalent of someone asking us to design a book cover about a story of a war for example. Why do we need to ask questions about what war, what country, what time. what uniforms etc. you get the idea.

The books that you referenced in your brief are all ambiguous at best. One is in a hall of mirrors, one looks like it is set in London, another in Paris. The only common imagery is that the women (not YA's) have a red dress on.
How many photographs/illustrations are there in libraries of women with a red dress on?
I personally spent 5 hours going through my stock photos and various stock libraries before I chose what I thought would be an appropriate image suitable for your brief.

Given that the title of Cinderella tends to automatically conjure up the fairy tale version, ie twinkly bits and magic etc, you have yet to clarify in your brief whether this is what you want, (although you have classified the book as a YA version) Does the book have anything to do with the Cinderella story?
Considering that YA's are a bit more savvy these days, does this mean the book is targeted more to children, or do you prefer a modern day romantic version, or even a more street version or a more realistic version?. (Surely she can't be wearing the same dress everyday!)
And yes, I did use a stock photo (lots if designers do) as the image seemed appropriate, given the info in the brief, and with the little retouching I did, the cover design brought the photo into timeless territory. i.e. it could be the present or the past. It has a modern day feel and is an excellent image which suits your (ambiguous) brief.
At worst, or even at best, it creates a dialogue between the author and the designers involved. Something that you have not been doing judging by the comments from designers and your (non-existent replies).

Your feedback - Quote "There is very little design here. You've just got a stock photo and put some text on it".
is insulting. I have used my time, experience and knowledge to get this cover to you. I could say to you that "Your brief is rubbish. there is nothing to work with" and nobody is getting anywhere fast. I understand that finding a cover for your book is a very personal experience for you and that you want to get the best version of what you think will work best for you. However as your craft is in words and not in pictures or design, perhaps you should use your craft to communicate to your designers more clearly. Derogatory remarks like yours are un-professional and serve no purpose. You didn't even say what could be improved or what you didn't like about it.
I hope you have found something that you are looking for in the 24 designs that have been submitted to date, but if you had given a more comprehensive or instructional brief, or replied to comments and questions submitted by other designers, no doubt you would have had designs that would have been targeted to the vision you had for your book cover.
