Brief de Design de Poster

I’m looking to produce a pitch document to help me find producers and financing for my sci-fi thriller, The Short Straw.

The Short Straw tells the story of the crew of a stranded starship who discover that their crippled vessel can only keep half of them alive. Now they must choose who gets to live – and who must die…

The focus of the film is the human story and the desperate choices people make when their backs are against the wall. Think Apollo 13 meets Alive.

The feel of the poster must incorporate the sci-fi/futuristic setting and the emotional tension. The mood will be tense, dramatic, dark, threatening (but no horror/gore/blood).

Colours will be blues, greens and greys/blacks, contrasted with cerise red.

Ideally, as this is very much a human story, the poster should incorporate the images of the main characters – but herein lies the challenge of the project as no actors are attached at this stage, and I do not want to use stock or imaginary faces as it may be misleading. Possible ideas would be to show the characters in stylised profile, sketch, in space suits… I’m open to ideas!

If you can't come up with a design that incorporates the characters, it's more important to capture the spirit of the story: the frustration, the determination, the fear... Think about you and your three best friends stuck in a room - two of you will be killed by terrorists, and you all get to choose who goes and who stays... How does that feel?

The design must include the tile (The Short Straw) and the tagline: Will you be chosen to live?

The characters, if portrayed, should include:
- an older man (around 60, think Bruce Willis, Ed Harris)
- a younger man (40, think Michael Fassbender, Guy Peirce)
- a woman (30s, think Emily Blunt, Famke Janssen).

Their ship is called Comet Chaser, and it's part of a mining corporation (like Alien's "truckers in space.")
