What you have described on your brief is contrast of what you are looking for
the youth would definitely not like a graduation hat on letter C that would look really bad. as its most commonly used

I have another idea that I'd like to put forward.
I'd like to use a photo of myself to create a digital sketch that can be used as a logo. I'll send more than one picture so that you can create a composite of me.

Create a color photo to use with B/W text. (like The College Essay Guy)
and also a B/W photo to us with color text

I will attach the inspiration for that idea - The College Essay Guy - you can also find him on the web.

With this design I'd like to narrow the text down to the following:

CollegeQuest
Ready Set College!

Please use this tagline in a smaller font below: guiding the way.

Include a black graduation cap somewhere in the text.
