Brief de Web Design
We are looking for a new design for our national homepage with a variation for our Local offices. The design for the local sites will be nearly identical to the national site, but these pages have different functions and will therefore have variations to the user experience. Please submit a national or local design. Requirements for both are below, but you can submit one or the other. You do not need to submit 2 designs.
We have 14 designs currently submitted, but none that show a design "above the fold" completely. We'd like to see some designs like this.
Handyman Matters Inc is a national handyman, home repair, and remodeling company based in Denver, CO. We have over 130 offices across North America.
Our main website (handymanmatters.com) provides much more information about our company history and culture. The main purpose of the website is to drive visitors to the local office nearest them using a zip code search feature. This is the top call to action for the main .com site.
Each local site should contain a lead form that visitors can complete when they want to hire us for a project. The form is an inquiry form, not an actual booking form. The form should be available on all pages so a visitor can request a craftsman at any time. The form and Phone number are the main call to action on all local sites.
We are big believers in conversion focused design, so be sure to really showcase the main calls to action for each design. We will base the winning designs on which ones we believe will convert more visitors into phone calls and form leads.
Current website: http://www.handymanmatters.com/. From there, you can navigate to a geo-specific franchisee website by either entering a ZIP Code or clicking on the Map link below the ZIP field. You will need to review at least some of the individual geo sites to understand how the franchise maintains its brand integrity across the system.
Main competitor sites
http://www.mrhandyman.com/
http://www.handymanconnection.com/
http://callthejack.com
Both designs should:
• Keep the user experience on the home page above the fold.
• Maintain a responsive layout: design will later be coded to support all devices from laptops, desktops, and tablets. There is a mobile site that exists specifically for mobile users, but the new design must accommodate all other devices effectively.
• Convey delivery, accountability, guarantee, locally owned.
• Stand out strongly as unique and creative versus our competitors.
• Elicit an "emotional response" from users. Think about terms like: trust, family, caring, warmth, and happiness.
• We like designs with a large image background, but keep in mind we want a design that converts users into customers, so be careful with distractions.
For the main, national site home page (handymanmatters.com), it's important to showcase:
1. Primary call to action: ZIP Code/Map Location Finder to drive traffic to local offices.
2. Important services to call out: residential repair, commercial repair, bathroom remodeling, and senior safety (Aging in Place).
3. 4-part service guarantee
4. Customer reviews
5. "As seen on" images and affiliate images for credibility
6. Franchising opportunities
7. Social media badges
8. Careers
Top calls to action for the national site:

3. Sign up for to receive our monthly newsletter

6. Connect in social media
For the local sites it's important to showcase:
1. Request a craftsman form
2. Local phone number
3. Services offered: Residential and commercial repair and maintenance, bathroom remodeling, senior safety (Aging in Place).
4. Service Guarantee
5. Reviews
6. Affiliate images
7. Social media badges
8. Before and after photos

4. Fill out the skills profile worksheet
5. Connect in social media

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: Still no designs that showcase all page elements without scroll. We are looking for more diverse options, so this project is extended. We have removed the request for a local and national design. Submitting one design will be sufficient.
Some example layouts we like that showcase no or limited scroll:

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: Client liked many of the designs that were submitted. They believe the winner is in there, but they do plan on reviewing the designs with the entire board of directors, so I need to extend this project to allow for review time.

- We would like designs to minimize or remove scrolling (above the fold). Of course, content will often dictate therefore the design needs to be flexible enough for longer pages to expand and scroll.
