Brief de Design de Logo

Overview of Organisation

1) What do we do:
The Erasmus Debating Society (EDS) is an independent Rotterdam-based debating society. Founded in 1989, it has become one of Europe’s most successful and well-known debating societies. 2) Who is our target market?
We target Erasmus University’s students of all ages, with major focus on students from ages 18-24. We prefer to attract younger members, since they stay with the society for a longer time eventually becoming better debaters that acquire top positions in tournaments worldwide.

3) Our main competitors
Technically we have a monopoly on debating in Rotterdam, but practically we are competing with other student societies from our university for students to join us.

Project Goals

1) Why we seek a new logo:
Our old logo is outdated and we are seeking a new brand image. The previous logo created several problems for us in the past, it was difficult to use for promotional purposes in an aesthetically pleasing way (banners, flags, flyers, Facebook, etc.), caused issues with the Erasmus university’s brand managers and in general was hardly recognizable. The new logo should solve these problems.

2) What message we wish to communicate about our society:
We wish that our logo is able to communicate these following things with its design (in no order of importance or emphasis on a certain aspect): it should be simple, serious, mature, luxurious, loud and obvious in its communication of our debating society.

3) What is our goal with the new logo
We want people that see our logo to be aesthetically pleased by it while not mistaking it for any other society but our debating society. We want our logo to be easily used for multiple promotional purposes, a logo that looks beautiful on a flag on its own or a detailed promotional banner. With it we want to increase awareness of our society. We do want to point out That it should be an original and creative logo in terms that we have seen many simple “text balloon” logos of other debating societies that we want to avoid.

P.S.

While in the logo text we have written "EDS", if you as a designer have a better idea with "Erasmus Debating Society" would also work. "EDS" has to be distinctive, since on our campus there is another society that has these three initials in their logo! If the designer wishes to contact us for more details he can do so by messaging us on our Facebook group or via email that is visible on our website.
