Brief de Web Design

We need the main (one) page design for MissionsHub. MissionsHub is a blogging platform for people (missionaries) who work for Christian Mission organisations in various countries. It will provides an easy way for them to setup and maintain a blog that will have features specifically for missions.

There's a lot of work involved in creating a web page design so I am happy to receive many quick rough designs. I will select my favourite four or five designs and these can submit the full design.

Please see the attached wireframe. Please also see the attached logo.

Main colours
- black
- white
- grey
- red (see logo colour) can be used occasionally eg. titles
- another complementary colour - occasionally used

Photos uploaded by the missionaries will provide colour for the website.

It needs to be a clean design that is not cluttered. The main focus are the blog posts. The information on the side complements the blog. There are navigational options at the top and bottom. The MissionsHub logo is not the main focus. The person's name (blog owner) is what needs to be most prominent.

I love the OpenIDEO design (http://www.openideo.com/). I particularly like the soft design - light grey background, white background boxes for content. The focus is the content - text and photos. I also like the subtle use of breakout image - "Take up the Challenge". I like the black navigation header and the black footer. I do not want a exact copy of the site but I'd like to use this concept .

I also like this Tumblr design (http://safe.tumblr.com/theme/preview/2807) because of the white box (and the shadow) for the content. I also like how the word "Quote" and the number of "notes" breaks out of the white content area (see attachment). I'd like to do this, if possible with the date. This is just a "nice to have" - definitely not essential. I don't like the font for the title in this example.

We have build a simple prototype already. I cautiously show this because I want the the design of this to be completely ignored. I used a free template. Along with the wireframe this prototype should an idea of what kind of content will be displayed but please don't look too much at it.

The design will be used to create a website using Drupal. We will use jQuery so feel free to suggest an animation or lightbox effect to make your design more dynamic. This is a nice to have.

Once we have our final design we will need to define the style for:
- h1 through h4 tags
- Paragraphs
- Lists
- Block quotes
- Italics, bolding and underlining
- Links, including active, hover and visited states

Please let me know what additional information you need. Also let me know if there is something I have not considered.
